Short version: LabelLens has no accounts and does not collect your
name, email, or location. Your scan history stays on your device. To identify
ingredients, the food label text and barcodes you scan are sent to our service and
to the data providers listed below.
Who we are
LabelLens ("we", "us") is an ingredient-intelligence app that helps people
understand what is in packaged food. This policy explains what data the app
processes and why.
What we do not collect
No account, login, or password — the app works without signing in.
No name, email address, phone number, or postal address.
No precise location, contacts, photos library, or microphone access.
No advertising identifiers. We do not show ads, sell data, or use
third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
Data stored on your device only
Scan history — results you choose to save are stored
locally on your device. They are not uploaded to us. Delete them any time
from the History screen, or remove them all by uninstalling the app.
Settings — app preferences (such as the server address)
are stored locally on your device.
Data sent to our service and providers
When you scan a barcode or submit label text, that information is sent to the
LabelLens backend so we can analyse it. To look up and describe ingredients, the
relevant text or barcode may be shared with these third-party data providers:
USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts
— to look up products by barcode.
Anthropic (Claude) — to help interpret and describe
ingredient text. Only ingredient/label text is sent; it is not used to
identify you.
These providers process the data under their own privacy terms.
Operational logging and error monitoring
Our servers keep operational logs that may include the ingredient text you
submit, used to run, debug, and improve the service. Logs are retained for a
limited period and are not linked to your identity.
We use Sentry for crash and error monitoring, configured to
exclude personal data — ingredient text and images are not attached to error
reports.
We collect aggregate, anonymous usage counts (for example,
how often a feature is used) that contain no personal data.
Children
LabelLens is intended for parents and caregivers. It is not directed to
children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices
Because we do not hold an account for you, most of your data lives on your
device and is under your control. You can clear saved history in the app or
uninstall to remove local data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be
reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
